The Stade Olympique de Gafsa, also known as Stade Mohamed Rouached, holds 7,000 spectators, a figure that has put EGS Gafsa at odds with league inspectors: in 2023 and 2024 the ground was flagged for falling short of the safety and facility standards required to host Ligue 1 fixtures. It remains the only home the club has known since 1967, when El Gawafel Sportives de Gafsa took shape in the mining town and took the nickname "El Falluja" — the Caravan — after the trading caravans that once passed through the area.

Green and yellow have stayed the club's colours throughout, the yellow shirt carrying green stripes into most seasons. Continental football arrived in 2007, when EGS Gafsa reached the intermediate round of the CAF Confederation Cup before Mamelodi Sundowns eliminated them 3–2 on aggregate. Promotion pushes have been harder to convert: in 2017–18 the side finished second in their Ligue 2 group only to fall to third in the playoffs, a campaign also marked by a match against US Ben Guerdane abandoned after 62 minutes when players protested on the pitch.

The breakthrough came in 2022–23, when EGS Gafsa won the Ligue Professionnelle 2 title, beating Avenir Sportif de la Marsa on penalties after a 2–2 draw in the Super Champion final. Iheb Msakni spent a loan season at the club in 2009–10 before going on to Espérance de Tunis and Étoile Sportive du Sahel. Locally, the club's derby with nearby JS Omrane still carries the weight of proximity more than any trophy between them.

EGS Gafsa has since reached the Coupe de Tunisie quarter-finals twice, in 2019 and again in 2025, without yet forcing a way past that stage or back among the leading clubs in Ligue 1.
