Jendouba Sport

Jendouba sits in Tunisia's north-west, close to the Algerian border, and the town's club has spent most of its life chasing rather than holding the spotlight. It began in 1922 as Association Sportive de Souk El-Arbâa, taking the name Jendouba Sport only in 1966.

The red and black shirts, and the "Diables Rouges" nickname that goes with them, have rarely flown at the top level. Jendouba Sport reached Ligue 1 in 2005 but came straight back down, then returned in 2007 after finishing second in Ligue 2, behind Stade Gabèsien. Ramzi Hermassi was part of that promotion squad; Anis Zitouni had kept goal for the club the season before. Neither spell in the top flight produced a trophy — the club has never won the league or the Tunisian Cup — and Jendouba Sport now plays in the second tier, the Ligue Professionnelle 2.

Sami Torkhani mattered here longer than most. A former player, he stayed on as assistant coach and later president of the football section, a tenure that ran until his death in November 2022. Fakhreddine Galbi, once a Tunisia Under-23 international, took charge of the team more recently.

What still draws a crowd in Jendouba is the meeting with Olympique du Kef or Olympique Béja, fixtures known locally as the Derby du Nord-Ouest. Games are played at the Jendouba Municipal Stadium, whose capacity runs to 4,000.
