JS Kairouanaise

JS Kairouanaise go into this Ligue 1 campaign off the back of promotion, having finished runners-up in Ligue 2 last season. This is a club that has spent long stretches shuttling between divisions, going up in 1972, again in 2005 after topping Ligue 2, and once more in 2009.

The one season everything held together was 1976-77, when Kairouan won the national championship. Moncef Ouada finished that campaign as its top scorer, part of a career in which he ended up the club's all-time leading marksman in the top flight with 71 goals. Khemaïs Laabidi, the most capped player in the club's history, was named the best player in Tunisia the year before that title and later returned to coach the side he had helped crown champions. A second-place league finish in 1992-93 stands as the closest Kairouan has come to repeating 1977.

Locally the club is known as Chabiba, shorthand for the Arabic word for youth, and it plays in green and white. Home games are at Stade Hamda Laâouani, named after a former club president.
