Assyriska FF

Assyriska FF shares Södertälje with Syrianska FC, and the two have never simply competed for points.

The club grew out of an association founded in 1971, with the football side following in 1974. Its Swedish honours amount to lower-division titles — Division 1 Norra in 2007, Division 2 Södra Svealand in 2020 and 2023 — when it reached the final of the Svenska Cupen and lost 0–2 to IF Elfsborg. A single season in Allsvenskan, in 2005, ended with relegation.

What has carried further than any result is what the club represents. For Assyrians without a state of their own, Assyriska has stood in for a national team, a status the 2006 documentary Landslaget utan land put into words. Kennedy Bakircioglu passed through between 1996 and 1998 before leaving for Hammarby IF, where he won the championship in 2001.

Home games are played at Södertälje Fotbollsarena, known locally as Jalla-Vallen, in front of a ground that holds 6,400. Assyriska is still measured against the derby and the diaspora it represents rather than against silverware.
