Every meeting with Clube Atlético Metropolitano still goes by the name Clássico do Chope, the Beer Derby, and it has outlasted the club that plays it. The colours came later than the club itself. On 19 July 1980, it took the name Blumenau Esporte Clube and combined green and white from Palmeiras with the red and white of a former rival, Grêmio Esportivo Olímpico, into the green-red-white still worn today.
Debts closed it down in 1998, and what returned in 2003 carried the name Sport Club Madureira, later Blumenau Sport Club Madureira, before the club reclaimed its historic identity in 2015.
