Chonburi FC

The name on the shirt gave it away long before the trophy did: in 2007, when Chonburi lifted the Thai Premier League title, it was a small provincial side beating the country's bigger names with players it had raised itself, not bought in.

That squad grew out of a merger — Assumption College Sriracha's football side joining forces with the Sannibat Samut Prakan Association in 1996, under the name Chonburi-Sannibat Samut Prakan. The partnership with Samut Prakan lasted only a few years; by 2000 the club had split off, taken the name Chonburi Football Club, and set about climbing the Provincial League on its own.

The 2007 title remains the club's only league championship, but it came with company: Chonburi also won the Kor Royal Cup that year, and again in 2009, 2011 and 2012, while finishing as league runners-up four times across that same stretch. A Thai FA Cup followed in 2010, Muang Thong United beaten 2–1 after extra time, and a League Cup arrived in 2008. The Sharks, as the club is known for its coastal province, wore that run as their peak.

Local rivalry sharpens the fixture list more than any of it. Pattaya United, once under the same ownership as Chonburi through the Kunpluem family, provides the derby that matters most; Sriracha FC supplied the older, historical edge before that.

Of the academy names that built the 2007 side, Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool is the one still spoken of first, and proof that the production line Chonburi built was never just about numbers.
