Gebenbach

DJK Gebenbach sprang from the desire of Catholic Rural Youth members to have a place to play football. On June 16, 1960, Kurt Milde senior and colleagues gathered Reverend Father Schmidl to establish the club. They chose green and white as their colours, a decision that stuck.

The pitch history tells more than the league table does. It is an old term for players on wet fields, referencing a time when the grass frequently held water.

Competitive fortunes have been volatile. They finished as runners-up in 2018/19 and again in 2022/23, reaching promotion playoffs to the Regionalliga Bayern both times but refusing to go away only to fall short each time. The 2024/25 season brought a different outcome. They won the championship in the relegation round for the Bayernliga Mitte, finishing first against SpVgg Unterhaching II to secure their place in the league. They did not need to fight for survival; they simply took control.

Local rivalries define the weekly routine. The match against DJK Ammerthal is the main district derby, played between two clubs from the Amberg-Sulzbach area. DJK Vilzing is another frequent opponent.
