The club was founded on 10 January 1919, in the Korso café in Kroměříž. Josef Silný, who lends the stadium its name, was born in the city in 1902 and came up through the club before becoming one of interwar Czechoslovak football's defining forwards: 113 league goals put him in the so-called Club of Gunners, and he took silver at the 1934 World Cup. He returned to Kroměříž afterwards and kept playing there until 1942.

Hanácká Slavia has spent most of its history below the top flight, working its way up through regional divisions: titles in Division E in 1993/94 and 2006/07, in Division D in 2000/01, then three championships in the Moravian-Silesian Football League, in 2003/04, 2022/23 and 2024/25. The last of those, under coach Bronislav Červenka, took the club into the Chance National League — the Czech second tier, and it has stayed there since. An earlier coach, Jindřich Lehocziv, is remembered locally for taking the side to the semi-final of the Czech Cup in 2011.
