Havnar Bóltfelag — the harbour's, or the port's, football club — was formed on 4 October 1904.
The club went looking for opponents before there were many to find at home. In 1910 it became the first Faroese side to travel abroad for matches, playing in Norway; trips to Shetland and Iceland followed. HB came back from Iceland in 1954 with a trophy, handed it to the sports association, and the Faroe Islands Cup began.
That fixture has never been a quiet one. In 1970 the two were due to meet in the cup final again, and KÍ refused to play it in Tórshavn. The final was never held.
Twenty-four league titles and thirty cups have come since.
Europe has been harder.
