Humenné

Humenné beat Spartak Trnava 2-1 in the 1996 Slovak Cup final, and the win sent the club into the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup that autumn. Two decades earlier, then playing as Chemlon, had already won the Czechoslovak national championship, in the 1976/77 season.

That older club, reborn under a succession of names from Homonnai Athlétikai Club in 1903 through Tatran, Chemko and Chemlon to ŠK Futura Humenné, eventually ran into financial trouble and sold off its licence in 2015. The senior football institution in the city carries on today as FK Humenné, formed in 2003, playing at Štadión Humenné. The ground was renovated between 2016 and 2018. It now holds 1,806, a fraction of the 10,000 it once packed in.

Pavol Diňa, top-scored in the Slovak league's first independent season, 1993/94, with 19 goals. Marián Čižovský, a defender capped by Slovakia and an Olympian in 2000, came up through the same academy before he died in 2020. The line runs into the present squad too: midfielder Ján Dzurik is the son of Peter Dzurik, who played in the same yellow and blue during Humenné's run of Slovakia internationals in the 1990s. Captain and goalkeeper Miloslav Breda led the current team to the East group title of the third tier in 2025/26, its second promotion of that kind after 2020/21.

Nothing since has matched the European run the cup win bought: past Albania's Flamurtari 3-0 on aggregate, then out to AEK Athens, 1-3, the biggest name Humenné have ever faced.
