Inter Bratislava

FK Inter Bratislava spent 2024 back where its history was made, playing again at Štadión Pasienky after years away from the ground it first occupied in 1962. The return followed a rebuild that started from nothing: after the professional side folded in 2009 and its licence went to FK Senica, a civic association put together a team out of the youth ranks and worked back up, turning itself into a joint-stock company in 2014.

The name on the shirt has changed more often than the shirt itself. The club went through Sokol SNB, then Červená Hviezda under communist rule, merged with Slovnaft in 1962 and with ZŤS Petržalka in 1986, before the Velvet Revolution cleared the way to Inter Slovnaft and, in 2004, to FK Inter Bratislava. The yellow and black kit survived all of it, and gave the club its nickname, the yellow-blacks.

The trophies mostly belong to an earlier country. Inter won the Czechoslovak league in 1959, then the Mitropa Cup in 1969 and the UEFA International Football Cup twice running, in 1963 and 1964. Independence brought two Slovak Superliga titles in a row, 1999–2000 and 2000–01, the second built around a team that also lifted the Slovak Cup. Slovan Bratislava, across the same city, has been the fixture that mattered most through all of it.

The 2000–01 side is remembered for Silard Nemet, top scorer in the league in both his seasons at the club. Middlesbrough paid €6.75 million for him in 2001, a fee no Slovak club had commanded before, and Inter's academy kept producing after him — Marek Čech left the same era for Sparta Prague and, eventually, Porto.
