Marisca Mersch

Marisca Mersch spent the 2023/24 season finding its feet in the National Division, the top flight it had never reached before, and finished 14th.

That promotion followed a Promotion d'Honneur campaign in which Marisca finished runners-up in 2023, and it arrived in the same season the club went further than ever before in the Luxembourg Cup, reaching the final and losing 4–2 to FC Differdange 03. A Coupe FLF final lost 6–0 to Jeunesse Junglinster back in 2012 was as far as it had previously gone. Lower down, the club had already won Division 1 Série 1 in 2013 and was handed the 2019/20 title after the pandemic cut that season short.

Founded in 1908, Marisca plays in blue and yellow and is known simply by its own name or the initials FCM — there was never a separate nickname to grow into. What local weight the club carries comes instead from the derby with FC Mamer 32, the neighbouring town's side, a fixture fought out mostly in the lower divisions and one that local press has taken to calling simply the Mersch-Mamer derby, without ever settling on anything grander.

The name attached most closely to that cup run is Frédéric Thill, with the club since 2016 and a Luxembourg international, who scored in the 2023 final against Differdange. Joel Rodrigues da Cruz, who arrived that same year, scored in the same match — proof that the run to the final was not built on one man alone.
