Twice in five seasons, Mégrine reached the top flight. Promotion arrived in 1976 on the back of the Ligue 2 Northern Division title, and the club finished 14th. Five years later the same script played out: another Northern Division crown, another promotion, and a 13th-place finish in 1981–82 that sent them down again.

The club began life as Racing Club de Mégrine before taking the name Association Mégrine Sport in 1963. A Ligue 3 title in 2005 and another, in Pool 1, in 2022 both did the same job: putting the club back into Ligue 2, where it sits now after finishing runner-up in Group A in 2024–25. In the Tunisian Cup, the closest it came was a run of quarter-final appearances in the 1970s and 1990s, without ever pushing further.

Karim Aouadhi, capped eleven times for Tunisia, remains the club's clearest link to the national team, while Sami Laaroussi's name is tied to 1997, when he finished the Tunisian Championship as its top scorer. Off the pitch, the club has also fielded a women's handball side, which won the national cup in 1995.

None of it carries the weight of the derby with CS Cheminots, a fixture with no love lost that has stayed lodged in the memory of the Tunis area for decades. A newer rivalry has grown with SC Ben Arous, born less of history than of geography: two clubs from the same governorate, meeting often enough in Ligue 2 for local papers to call it a derby too.
