Mouloudia Oujda

In March 2021 the players of Mouloudia Oujda stopped work. President Mohamed Houar had gone, the running of the club came apart. Madani Ziani was elected president in March 2024 to put the club back in order.

It is a division the club knows well. Mouloudia have won the second tier four times, in 1950, 1993, 2003 and 2018.

The club was formed in 1946, under the French protectorate, by Moroccan Muslims, Jews and Franco-Algerians together. It was regarded as a symbol of national identity. Its best years came soon afterwards: the Throne Cup in 1957, 1958, 1960 and 1962, plus the Moroccan Super Cup in 1960. One of that era's players, Kamal Smiri, won the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco in 1976. The Stade d'Honneur opened in 1977, the year after.

Oujda has a second club, USM Oujda, and the derby between them is called the Derby of the Pink City. Mouloudia's own nickname, "Kings of the East", is a reminder that the city sits in the far east of Morocco, and in the club's own language they are also "Sindibad of the East".

The player Oujda remembers best is Rachid Neqrouz. He won 52 caps for Morocco and went to the 1994 World Cup.
