Poland's under-19 side has one final it still measures itself against: 2001, when a team built around Łukasz Nawotczyński, Łukasz Madej and Wojciech Łobodziński beat the Czech Republic 3–1 to take the UEFA European Under-18 Championship, with all three scoring in the final. There were also three runner-up finishes — 1961, 1980 and 1981 — and a pair of bronze medals in 1972 and 1984. There was also a Toulon Tournament win in 1974, settled on penalties against Hungary after a 1–1 draw.

The team dates back to a 1–0 win over Hungary U-19 in Łódź in September 1948, and it took until 1955 for Poland to start entering the UEFA Junior Tournament, the competition's early form. What has mattered more over the decades is who passed through the squad on the way up: Jakub Błaszczykowski made his U-19 debut in 2004, and Robert Lewandowski earned a single cap in 2007.

Wojciech Kobeszko took over as head coach in July 2024, following Marcin Brosz's spell in charge from 2022 to 2023. Unlike the senior side, this age group has no fixed home: qualifiers move between cities as the draw dictates, and in recent campaigns, including the October 2024 qualifiers, that has meant matches at the Subcarpathian Football Center in Stalowa Wola and the MOSiR Stadium in Mielec.
