Alongside JKT Tanzania and Tanzania Prisons, Polisi Tanzania belongs to the country's uniformed sides.

The club used to answer to a different name and play out of a different city. As Polisi Morogoro, it competed in the Tanzanian Premier League and First Division through the mid-2010s, including a relegation in the 2015/16 season. On 1 July 2017, the Tanzania Police Force's team was reconstituted as Polisi Tanzania FC and shifted its base to Moshi, in the Kilimanjaro Region, where it has played since at Ushirika Stadium.

No league title, cup or super cup sits in the club's history. A second relegation followed the 2022–23 season, and Polisi Tanzania has spent the 2024–25 campaign in the Championship League, the second tier. It is still, at its foundation, a police team.
