The border with Colombia runs through the middle of this club's story. San Antonio del Táchira sits on it, and so does Ureña, ten minutes up the road; when the two met in the Copa Venezuela in 2016, Real Frontera won it on a penalty from their captain, Frank Presilla. Diego Ropero had already scored earlier in the tie. Presilla has since played 50 matches for the club, having been there since the third-division season of 2015.

Home games are not played at home. San Antonio has no ground fit for professional football, so the club travels to San Cristóbal, the state capital, and uses the Polideportivo de Pueblo Nuevo for a side that has never won a trophy. The blue and claret of the shirts gives them their other name, Azulgranas, though on the border they are simply Los Fronterizos.

Promotion to the professional game came without a promotion. In 2016 the club bought the franchise of REDI Colón and took its place in the Segunda División, which is how a team that had been playing in the third tier a year earlier found itself in the second.

None of that was the plan when Javier Moreno set the club up on 14 January 2011. It was a cantera — a youth setup, meant to bring players through and nothing more.
