Sportivo Luqueño

Estadio Feliciano Cáceres sits in Luque, and holds around 24,000 people. The ground has carried the team through more than a century of Paraguayan football, long enough that the club itself grew out of a merger — Marte Atlético, Vencedor and General Aquino came together on 1 May 1921 to form the side now known as El Auriazul.

The vertical stripes that give the nickname its meaning have been worn to three Primera División titles, in 1951, 1953 and 2007. The 1953 campaign carries an extra line in the record books: alongside the league crown, the club also took the Plaqueta Millington Drake that year. Between the top-flight successes, Sportivo Luqueño spent stretches working back up from the second tier, winning the División Intermedia four times — 1924, 1956, 1964 and 1968 — each promotion a step toward another shot at the title it already knew how to win.
