Stenungsund

Stenungsunds IF, formed in 1927, found its highest level in 1993, when it won the qualification play-off for Division 1 Södra and reached the second tier for the first time. It finished third in 1996 and went out of the Svenska Cupen at the quarter-final stage the following season, beaten by Helsingborgs IF.

What followed was a slower story. By the early 2000s the club had fallen as far as the fifth tier, and the climb back took over a decade before the Division 2 Norra Götaland title in 2017 sent it up to Division 1 again. It could not hold that level, and 2024 brought another drop, this time to Division 3.

The club's clearest export is Samuel Gustafson, who left Stenungsund for BK Häcken and later Urawa Red Diamonds and has since won more than 100 caps for Sweden, though Martin Pringle also went on to Benfica and the national team.

Local pride runs through the Bohusderby, played against Grebbestads IF, Herrestads AIF and IFK Uddevalla, with matches against Vänersborgs FK carrying much the same edge. Known as De Röda Bröderna, the Red Brothers, the club plays at what is now called Olssons Trävaror Arena.
