IF Elfsborg

Elfsborg return to Allsvenskan carrying six league titles into a table where the most recent of them, 2012, keeps receding further into the past. Three Svenska Cupen wins have followed since — 2001, 2003 and 2014 — but the league itself has stayed out of reach for well over a decade now.

The club traces back to a group of nineteen boys, aged fourteen and fifteen, brought together by Carl Larsson at a meeting in the Ordenshuset hall in the Landala district of Borås on 26 June 1904. They called themselves Borås Fotbollslag. The yellow shirts and black shorts were borrowed from the uniform of the Älvsborg Regiment, and the borrowed name eventually became Elfsborg's own, along with the nickname Di Gule — the Yellow Ones.

Borås Arena, known to supporters as Elfsborgs Festning, has held 14,500 for league games since it replaced the old Ryavallen. The setting has changed more than the club's standing in it: Elfsborg won the league three times in a five-year stretch either side of the Second World War, in 1936, 1939 and 1940, then again in 1961, before a long gap closed with the 2006 and 2012 titles.

Roland Sandström carried the team through the 1960s and did something no player in Sweden had managed before him: won the championship in the same season his club came straight up from the second division. Later squads passed through Tobias Linderoth and Mathias Svensson, both tied to the club at different points in their careers.
