Julius Magnusson

Júlíus Magnússon took the penalty that won Fredrikstad the Norwegian Cup in 2024. The final was against Molde, and the midfielder was also the club's captain at the time.

The road to that night began abroad. He started out at Leiknir Reykjavík, moved to Víkingur Reykjavík in 2012 and at 2015 went to the SC Heerenveen academy in the Netherlands. He stayed there until 2019 without playing for the first team, then returned to Iceland and rejoined Víkingur.

Back in Reykjavík he became a key figure in the squad. Víkingur won the Icelandic Cup in 2019, 2021 and 2022, and the league title in 2021. The Icelandic Super Cup came in 2020 and 2022.

In February 2023 he joined Fredrikstad on a free transfer and was made captain. The club won the Norwegian First Division that year and were promoted to the Eliteserien.

On 10 January 2025 he moved to IF Elfsborg in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Swedish outlets Fotbollskanalen and Aftonbladet reported a fee of about 10 million kronor, with bonuses that could add another 4 million. His contract runs to the end of 2029.

For Iceland he played at U16, U17, U19 and U21 levels before making his senior debut on 9 June 2022 in a friendly against San Marino. By early 2025 he had won five caps, all in friendlies: against San Marino, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Estonia and Sweden. He has not yet scored for the national side.
