Tammeka

Tammeka begin the new season back in Esiliiga, working their way up again after finishing ninth in Meistriliiga in 2021 and dropping down.

The club was formed in Tartu in 1989, at a time when Estonia's national reawakening was reshaping public life, and that moment left its mark on the shirt: blue and white, the colours of the Estonian flag, which is also where the nickname "The Blues" comes from. Home games are played at Tamme Stadium, a ground that holds 1,750.

Their best league finish is fifth, managed in 2007, 2019 and 2020 — in 2007 the club played under the name Maag Tammeka. That same year they reached the Estonian Cup final and lost 1:3 to Flora Tallinn; a second final appearance came in 2016/17, beaten 0:2 by FCI Tallinn. Promotion arrived in 2004, when Tammeka won Esiliiga outright and stepped up into the top division.

Tartu itself supplies the rivalry. Matches against Tartu Santos are known as the Tartu derby, and there is history too with Tartu Kalev, a fixture that mattered most in the years when Santos was absent from the top flight and Tammeka's city clashes needed another opponent.
