União Desportiva de Santarém won the third division twice, in 1974/75 and 1984/85, and both times the reward was the same disappointment: a single season in the second tier before dropping back down. In 2018/19, when União won the Santarém district championship and the Taça do Ribatejo in the same season.
The club formed on 23 August 1969, when two Santarém sides, Sport Clube Granjense Os Leões and Sport Grupo União Operária, merged into one. In 1992 União counted 4,000 paying members; by 2018 that number had fallen to twenty.
Home games are played at Campo Chã das Padeiras, which holds a little over 2,000 people. The team plays in red. União currently competes in Liga 3, the third tier of Portuguese football.
