Westchester Flames

Its first coach was Vladislav Bogicevic, a Yugoslav international who had played for the New York Cosmos.

The first season was spent at Manhattanville College in Purchase and ended 7–9. The second, at Fordham University, produced a 15–3–0 record, first place in the Northeast Division and third place in the nation. In 2001 the team settled at Skidelsky Field, part of City Park Stadium, where it still plays, and won the national title of the USL Premier Development League (PDL) that year. On August 4, 2001, in Des Moines, Iowa, it beat the Calgary Storm 3–1 in the final, after a 5–1 win over the Sioux Falls Spitfire in the semi-final. Evaud Thompson was named the final's most valuable player.

Promotion followed in 2002, to the professional USL D-3 Pro League. In 2003 the Flames reached the national final there and lost in overtime to the Wilmington Hammerheads. No other USL team had won a championship, moved up a division and then reached the final in the new one.

Skoufis, a founder, has been head coach since 2007, and the club now plays in USL League Two. Charlie Davies went on to the U.S. men's national team, as did Julius James, and Chris Wingert and Carlos Mendes reached Major League Soccer clubs.
