Croatian immigrants in Perth's western suburbs put the club together in 1968. Metropolitan first, then Croatia through the early 1970s once the side had climbed into the First Division as North Perth Croatia. That lasted until 1994, when new rules stripping ethnic names from Western Australian football forced the change to Western Knights.
The 2017 season stands out on its own: a Football West State League Division 1 title paired with the WA State Cup, won as a side from outside the top flight, a feat the competition had not seen since 1991.
Perth SC has long stood on the other side of the fixture, the two clubs trading Grand Final and Night Series finishes often enough.
Sam Kerr came through the youth ranks at Western Knights between 2006 and 2008 before Perth Glory took her on, and Robbie Dunn, capped 25 times for the Socceroos.
Nash Field in Mosman Park has held the club since those early Croatian years.
