About

The Andhra Premier League is a professional Twenty20 franchise cricket tournament sanctioned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Organized by the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA), the competition operates as a regional league headquartered in Visakhapatnam. It functions outside the official BCCI domestic pyramid, meaning it is not part of state-representation structures like the Ranji Trophy. Instead, teams are privately owned franchises representing specific cities or regions within Andhra Pradesh. There is no promotion or relegation between the league and official state domestic teams.

The competition format features a single round-robin league stage followed by a four-team knockout playoff system. The playoff structure includes a Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final. Tie-breakers for standings rely on Net Run Rate, while Super Overs determine the outcome of tied matches. Broadcast coverage is provided by Star Sports Telugu, with streaming available on FanCode and JioHotstar.

Championship history shows a rotation of winners across recent seasons. The 2022 inaugural edition was won by the Coastal Riders. The Rayalaseema Kings claimed the title in 2023, followed by the Vizag Warriors in 2024. The 2025 season saw the Tungabhadra Warriors emerge victorious. The current title holder for the 2026 season is the Bhimavaram Bulls. The league has seen sponsorship changes, with the Shriram Group backing the first two editions and the GMR Group leading the 2025-2026 campaigns. A major rebranding occurred before the 2025 season, where original franchises were replaced by new entities. The tournament serves as a talent identification platform for local players, many of whom also participate in official Andhra state teams in national tournaments.
