About

The Bengal T20 Challenge is a domestic Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Founded in 2020, the competition serves as a grassroots development initiative for club-level and district-level teams within the Indian state of West Bengal. It operates as a state-level event rather than a BCCI-sanctioned national tournament, acting as a pre-season warm-up for players aiming for higher domestic honours.

The structure of the competition underwent a significant transformation in its second season. The inaugural edition featured six traditional Kolkata-based clubs, with Tapan Memorial Club securing the title by defeating Mohun Bagan. The 2021 iteration shifted to a franchise model, introducing six district or city-based sides: Kharagpur Blasters, Barrackpore Bashers, Kanchenjunga Warriors, Durgapur Dazzlers, Krishnanagar Challengers, and Kolkata Heroes. This edition included 120 players across various age groups, ranging from Under-19 to Senior.

The 2021 format utilized a single round-robin league where each team played every opponent twice, followed by semi-finals and a final. Barrackpore Bashers won the championship, beating Kolkata Heroes by five runs in the concluding match. Matches were hosted at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Information regarding the tournament is disseminated through the CAB’s official channels and social media platforms rather than a standalone website.

The competition distinguishes itself from the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the official national domestic T20 competition featuring state associations. The Bengal T20 Challenge functions as a feeder and preparatory competition for the state’s domestic structure. While the men’s tournament saw activity in 2020 and 2021, no further editions have been recorded for the subsequent men's seasons. A separate women's version was held in December 2022.
