Ireland A tour of Nepal 2023/24

The Ireland A tour of Nepal 2023/24 was a bilateral cricket series rather than a formal league or cup competition with a founding date. Organized by Cricket Ireland and hosted by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the event served as a developmental tour for fringe players. It took place in Kirtipur, Nepal, from late March to early April 2024. The series featured two distinct formats. Three List A matches, played over 50 overs, were contested between Ireland A and Nepal A. Additionally, three T20 Internationals were scheduled between the same teams. These matches were designated as ‘unofficial’ internationals, providing a pathway for players to gain experience at a high level without the pressure of full international status. Ireland A, also referred to as the Ireland Wolves, is a developmental squad rather than a domestic club. Similarly, Nepal A is a national select side. The tour marked the inaugural visit of an Irish representative side to Nepal. The results showed Ireland A winning the T20 series 2-1 and the List A series 3-0. Two senior T20Is were also played between Nepal and Ireland Wolves. Nepal secured victory in both matches, winning the two-match series 2-0. The tour highlighted the differing levels of development between the two nations, particularly in the shorter format where Nepal succeeded despite the broader dominance seen in the List A cricket. While Nepal’s domestic top tier is the Prime Minister Cup, founded in 2017, and Ireland’s is the Inter-Provincial Series, founded in 2013, this specific event existed outside those structures. The focus remained squarely on player development and bilateral engagement rather than competitive standings within a larger tournament framework.
