About

The Nepal Premier League is a professional Twenty20 cricket tournament in Nepal. It is the country's flagship franchise-based league, positioned as the top-tier professional competition. The league was established in 2024 by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to replace previous private franchise tournaments like the Everest Premier League. This move brought the format under official governance to ensure transparency and standardization.

The competition features eight franchise teams representing major regions of Nepal. These include the Biratnagar Kings, Chitwan Rhinos, Janakpur Bolts, Karnali Yaks, Kathmandu Gurkhas, Lumbini Lions, Pokhara Avengers, and Sudurpaschim Royals. The season format consists of a single round-robin league stage. Each of the eight teams plays seven matches, totaling 28 league matches. The top four teams advance to a knockout playoff stage. This stage comprises four matches: Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final. A total of 32 matches are played per season.

There is no promotion or relegation system. It is a closed franchise league where teams are owned by private entities. The league operates separately from the National T20 Championship, also known as the Arjun Trophy. That traditional domestic tournament features provincial representative teams rather than franchises. While the Nepal Premier League is commercially the premier league, the National T20 Championship remains the core domestic competition for provincial representation and player selection. The Nepal Premier League serves as a professional showcase and talent pool.

The current title holder is the Lumbini Lions, who won the 2025 season by defeating the Sudurpaschim Royals. The inaugural 2024 season was won by the Janakpur Bolts. The league has no single overarching title sponsor. It relies instead on team-specific sponsors, such as Ncell for the Lumbini Lions in 2024, and league-wide partners like Omoda & Jaecoo.
