About

The Women's Asia Cup is the premier continental cricket championship for Asian nations, organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Since its inception in 2004, the tournament has evolved from a predominantly One Day International (ODI) competition into a dedicated Twenty20 International (T20) event. The format shift occurred in 2012, when the ACC revived the competition and switched permanently to the T20 structure, with the exception of a single ODI edition in 2018. This consistency distinguishes it from the men's counterpart, which alternates formats to align with global cycles.

India Women hold the record for the most titles, having secured victory seven times across the tournament's history. Their dominance spans both the early ODI era and the modern T20 period, including wins in 2004, 2005–06, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2022. Bangladesh claimed the sole ODI title in 2018, while Sri Lanka Women secured their first championship in 2024 by defeating India in the final. The 2024 edition expanded to include eight teams, incorporating associate members such as Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, and Indonesia, who earned their spots through the ACC Women's Premier Cup.

The tournament operates on a biennial schedule, with the next edition scheduled for 2026 in the T20 format. Individual performances have set benchmarks, including Chamari Athapaththu's unbeaten 119 runs in a T20 match and four bowlers achieving the best innings figures of five wickets. The competition sits above associate member qualifiers, serving as the definitive regional championship for women's cricket in Asia, governed from Dubai under the ACC's auspices.
