About

The Nepal Premier League (NPL) serves as the premier domestic Twenty20 cricket competition in Nepal, operating under the authority of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN). Established in 2024, this franchise-based league replaced the previous Nepal T20 League (NT20L) following the earlier tournament's dissolution due to governance issues. The competition features a closed system of eight teams representing various provinces, with franchises secured through a public auction conducted in September 2024.

The structure of the season is straightforward, beginning with a single round-robin group stage where each side faces every opponent once. The top four finishers progress to a knockout phase comprising a Qualifier 1, an Eliminator, and a Qualifier 2, culminating in a final match. This format ensures a clear path for the leading teams to contest the championship without the complication of promotion or relegation.

In the inaugural 2024 edition, the Janakpur Bolts claimed the title by defeating the Sudurpaschim Royals in the decisive game. The competition stands apart from traditional domestic contests like the National T20 Cup and private ventures such as the Everest Premier League, holding the status of the sole official professional league recognized by both CAN and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Individual performances during the first season highlighted emerging talent, with Lahiru Milantha of the Janakpur Bolts finishing as the leading run-scorer with 293 runs. In the bowling department, a tie for the highest wicket tally emerged between Scott Kuggeleijn and Lalit Rajbanshi, each taking 17 wickets. The league continues to grow as the primary platform for professional cricket within the country, providing a structured environment for players to showcase their skills.
