About

Legends League Cricket (LLC) operates as a standalone commercial entity for retired international cricketers outside the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) pyramid. Founded in 2021 by Raman Raheja and Vivek Khushalani, the competition is distinct from the Indian Premier League (IPL) through player eligibility: participants must be fully retired from both international and domestic cricket, meaning they forfeit IPL eligibility. This exclusivity has made the league the second most-watched T20 competition in India.

The domestic league features six franchise teams representing cities or regions, including Bhilwara Kings, Gujarat Giants, India Capitals, and Manipal Tigers. The season format involves a round-robin league stage followed by playoffs consisting of a Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and the Final. Franchises are acquired through private investment and bidding, ensuring there is no promotion or relegation. The competition began in January 2022 in Oman, with the domestic phase following later.

Recent years have seen significant changes, including the expansion from four to six teams and the rebranding of several franchises. For instance, the Bhilwara Kings became the Konark Suryas Odisha. The 2024 final concluded in a tie, decided by a Super Over. India Capitals claimed the title in the inaugural 2022 season, while Manipal Tigers won in 2023 and Southern Superstars in 2024.
