About

The National T20 Championship stands as the premier provincial cricket competition in Nepal. Organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), it serves as the top tier of the domestic Twenty20 structure. The tournament was established in 2023, marking a shift in the nation's cricketing landscape.

The competition features seven provincial teams: Bagmati, Gandaki, Koshi, Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpashchim. These sides participate based on Nepal's federal structure, with no system of promotion or relegation. The format combines a round-robin group stage with knockout playoffs to determine the champion.

In the inaugural 2023 season, three departmental clubs joined the provincial sides. Tribhuwan Army Club, Armed Police Force Club, and Nepal Police Club competed alongside the provinces. However, for the 2024 edition, the structure changed to include only the seven provincial teams.

Lumbini Province claimed the 2024 title after defeating Gandaki Province. Madhesh Province secured the inaugural championship in the previous year.

This tournament differs significantly from the Nepal Premier League (NPL), which launched in 2024. The NPL operates as a franchise-based competition featuring city-based teams such as Janakpur Bolts and Lumbini Lions. The National T20 Championship maintains its focus on regional representation through its provincial framework. While the predecessor tournaments were dominated by departmental clubs like APF and Tribhuwan Army, the current format emphasizes provincial development within the national game.
