About

Prime Minister Cup is the premier domestic one-day cricket tournament in Nepal. Organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), the competition serves as the country’s top-tier limited-overs event. It replaced the National League following an international suspension of the governing body. The tournament moved from its original structure to a single round-robin league format in 2024. The top two teams from this group stage contest a final to determine the champion.

The field includes seven provincial sides and three departmental clubs. The provincial teams represent Bagmati, Gandaki, Koshi, Lumbini, Madhesh, Karnali and Sudurpashchim. The departmental entries are the Tribhuvan Army Club, Armed Police Force Club and Nepal Police Club. Four of these sides will earn places in the Jay Trophy, Nepal’s premier first-class competition, based on their standing in the PM Cup.

Nepal Police Club holds the record for most victories, having won four titles. Their successes include a shared honour in 2017, followed by wins in 2019, 2024 and 2025. The Tribhuvan Army Club secured the title in 2026. The Armed Police Force Club has also claimed the trophy on multiple occasions, though specific counts are not detailed here. The PM Cup runs parallel to the Nepal Premier League, a franchise Twenty20 competition, and the Manmohan Memorial Cup, another List A event.

The tournament provides regular competitive matches for these regional and departmental squads. It links the domestic one-day circuit with the first-class Jay Trophy, creating a pathway for players to progress between formats. The structure ensures that every participating team plays each other within the league phase before the knockout stages begin.
