Prime Minister Cup

The Prime Minister Cup operates as the premier domestic one-day cricket tournament in Nepal, structured around fifty-over matches. Organised jointly by the National Sports Council and the Cricket Association of Nepal, the competition was launched in 2017 to restore high-level domestic cricket following a period of suspension. Unlike knockout-only formats, this tournament functions primarily as a league followed by a playoff stage, providing a consistent platform for player development.

The field consists of ten sides divided into two distinct categories. Seven teams represent the country’s provinces: Bagmati, Karnali, Lumbini, and four others not specified in the current squad list. The remaining three departments are departmental clubs, specifically the Tribhuwan Army Club, Armed Police Force Club, and Nepal Police Club. These participants are fixed based on their institutional affiliations, meaning there is no promotion or relegation within the PM Cup itself.

The structure begins with a group stage where teams play each other in a round-robin format. The top performers then advance to semi-finals and a final to determine the champion. While the PM Cup sits below the multi-day Jay Trophy in the domestic hierarchy, it serves a critical role in preparing players for international List A fixtures. Crucially, the top four teams from the PM Cup qualify for the Jay Trophy, linking the one-day competition directly to the premier first-class tournament.

Nepal Police Club holds the record for the most victories, winning the title in 2017 alongside Tribhuwan Army Club, and again in 2019, 2024, and 2025. Tribhuwan Army Club and Armed Police Force Club have each secured the championship twice. The tournament has been sponsored by Sagarmatha Cement, adding commercial stability to the event. This format distinguishes it from twenty20 leagues, focusing entirely on the longer version of the game for skill refinement. The competition remains a cornerstone of Nepali cricket, bridging the gap between provincial talent and national selection.
