PM Cup (Nepal) 2023/24

Prime Minister Cup Men's National Cricket Tournament is the top-tier domestic One-Day (List A) competition in Nepal. It sits at the apex of the country’s domestic one-day structure, featuring a fixed pool of ten teams. These include seven provincial sides representing Nepal’s federal provinces and three departmental entities: Tribhuvan Army Club, Armed Police Force Club, and Nepal Police Club. Participation relies on provincial or institutional status rather than performance-based promotion or relegation.

The tournament began in 2017 following the suspension of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) by the International Cricket Council. While founded by the National Sports Council of Nepal, CAN currently organises the event. The format relies on a round-robin league stage followed by a final. Recent editions have simplified the knockout phase, with the top two teams advancing directly to the decider. Success in the PM Cup carries immediate consequence; the four highest-placed teams earn qualification for the Jay Trophy, the premier multi-day (first-class) tournament in Nepal. This structure ensures the competition remains the primary gateway for domestic players aiming to progress to longer formats.

Historically, departmental teams have maintained dominance over provincial sides. Nepal Police Club holds the record for most titles, having secured four victories. Tribhuvan Army Club follows with three championships, while Armed Police Force Club claims two. The tournament operates independently from the National T20 Championship, known as the Arjun Trophy, which serves as the primary domestic Twenty20 competition. A separate women’s version of the Prime Minister Cup also exists, typically played in Twenty20 format. The 2026 edition concluded with Tribhuvan Army Club defeating Sudurpashchim Province in the final.
