About

The Royal London One-Day Cup is a domestic List A cricket competition in England and Wales organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It operates as the premier one-day tournament in the English domestic cricket pyramid, utilising the standard 50-over format to align with international standards. The structure divides all 18 first-class counties into two groups of nine teams, with the top performers advancing to a knockout stage comprising semi-finals and a final. There is no promotion or relegation within this tier.

The competition was established in 2014, replacing the previous 40-over ECB40 tournament. It serves as the direct successor to the Royal London One-Day Cup (2014–2022) and its predecessors, the Clydesdale Bank 40 and Yorkshire Bank 40 (2010–2013). This format merges the league and knockout hybrid structure of the earlier era with the longer game duration. It remains distinct from the historic NatWest Trophy lineage, which was a pure knockout competition that concluded in 2009, and from the 20-over T20 Blast.

Historical records show Warwickshire and Lancashire are tied with seven all-time titles each when combining the modern one-day cup lineage with the 40-over era. Warwickshire secured victories in 1966, 1968, 1989, 1993, 1995, 2010, and 2016. Lancashire won in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1975, 1990, 1996, and 1998. Nottinghamshire holds the record for the highest team total in the competition, scoring 445/8 in 2016. Recent winners include Worcestershire in 2025, Glamorgan in 2024, and Leicestershire in 2023. The current sponsor is Metro Bank.
