The Hundred Men's Competition is a professional cricket tournament organized by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). It was launched in 2021 as a standalone, franchise-based commercial product that operates outside the traditional county cricket pyramid. The competition does not feature promotion or relegation; instead, eight city-based teams compete as fixed entities owned by partnerships between host county clubs and private investors.
The format is distinct from all other cricket codes. Each team faces exactly 100 balls per innings rather than the traditional 20-over or 50-over structures. Bowlers deliver in sets of five or ten balls, and each bowler can bowl a maximum of 20 balls in an innings. The entire competition, including the finals, is designed to be completed in approximately three hours, with matches lasting around 90 minutes to two hours. The season runs for ten weeks in July and August, typically overlapping with the end of the County Championship and the T20 Blast.
The season structure consists of a league stage where each team plays eight matches against various opponents. There are no groups; all teams are in a single table. The top three teams at the end of the league stage qualify for "Finals Day." The team finishing first receives a bye to the final. The second-placed team plays the third-placed team in a semi-final. The winner of the semi-final faces the first-placed team in the final. The finals are held at Lord's Cricket Ground in London.
In terms of history and winners, the Oval Invincibles are the most successful team, having won the competition in 2023 and 2024. The 2021 winner was Southern Brave, and the 2022 winner was Trent Rockets. For the 2025 season, the Manchester Super Giants are recorded as the winners. The competition has not undergone a name change due to sponsorship, retaining the name "The Hundred" since its inception.
