TNPL (India) 2021/22

The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) stands as a professional Twenty20 cricket league established in 2016. It operates under the auspices of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) and holds official recognition from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as a state-level tournament. The competition serves primarily as a developmental platform for local talent, functioning as a second-tier or feeder league where private franchises, rather than state teams, compete.

The league currently features eight city-based franchise teams. The season format consists of a single round-robin league stage where each team plays every other team. The top four teams from the league stage advance to the playoffs, which follow the 'IPL pattern': Qualifier 1 (1st vs 2nd), Eliminator (3rd vs 4th), Qualifier 2 (Loser of Q1 vs Winner of Eliminator), and the Final.

Chepauk Super Gillies are the most successful team in the league's history, having won the title four times (2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022). The 2022 title was shared with Lyca Kovai Kings. The current reigning champions are IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, who won their maiden title in 2025.

The league is distinct from the IPL in that it features only local Tamil Nadu talent with no international players, focusing on player development for state selection and IPL scouting.
