About

The Women's T20 Challenge was a Twenty20 cricket tournament organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Founded in 2018, the competition ran until 2022 before being discontinued. It was replaced by the Women's Premier League (WPL), which held its inaugural season in 2023.

The tournament served as an exhibition event, distinct from the official domestic pyramid. It was primarily held alongside the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs to showcase women's cricket. The competition featured three franchise-based teams: Supernovas, Trailblazers, and Velocity. The format consisted of a single round-robin league stage followed by a knockout final. The top two teams advanced to the final based on points and Net Run Rate.

The inaugural 2018 edition featured only two teams, Supernovas and Trailblazers, in a single match. From 2019 onwards, Velocity joined, expanding the format to three teams. Supernovas is the most successful team, having won the tournament three times (2018, 2019, and 2022). Trailblazers won once in 2020. The 2020 edition was held in the UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The tournament had title sponsors starting in 2020 (Jio) and 2022 (My11Circle), with no title sponsors in 2018 and 2019. The teams were not directly linked to the WPL franchises, which were established as new commercial properties.
