A.D. Povoa Andebol Clube

Andebol 1 is where Bodegão have played since the 2020/21 season.

The name traces back to a split rather than a founding in the ordinary sense. Handball had existed in Póvoa de Varzim since the 1982/83 season under Clube Desportivo da Póvoa, but when that club refused to bring its handball section back, a group of former officials and athletes set up their own on 10 January 2003. For years the senior side struggled with an ageing squad, and in 2006, under president José Oliveira Pereira, the club turned instead to building up its youth ranks. That decision took almost a decade to pay off: a senior team only returned for the 2015/16 season, in the third division.

What followed came quickly by comparison. The youth work behind that climb produced Gabriel Conceição, who earned a call-up to Portugal's under-20 side, while Vasco Teixeira moved on to Spain's Liga Asobal.

Home games are played at the Pavilhão Municipal da Póvoa de Varzim, in front of a capacity of 2,327. CD Póvoa remains the club it is most often measured against locally.

The club has twice reached the last 16 of the Taça de Portugal, in 2017/18 and again in 2022/23.
