Bermuda

David Hemp remains the figure Bermudian cricket measures itself against: 641 runs in One Day Internationals, and an innings of 247 not out against the Netherlands.

That self-image was tested properly in 2007, when Bermuda qualified for the Cricket World Cup as the smallest nation by population and land area ever to do so, a run that began with a semi-final finish at the 2005 ICC Trophy. One Day International status followed in 2006, Twenty20 International status in 2008.

Since then the story has been one of qualification races rather than tournaments proper. In 2023 Bermuda reached the final of the T20 World Cup Americas Regional qualifier only to lose the spot to Canada on net run rate, the same opponent that has repeatedly stood between the Gombey Warriors and the next level; a semi-final exit to the United States at the 2025 North American Cup followed the same pattern. Captain Kamau Leverock now carries the side's T20I scoring, playing out of the Bermuda National Stadium in Devonshire, in front of crowds that top out at 8,500 — a reminder of how much the team has packed into a small ground and a smaller population, and how a World Cup return has stayed just out of reach since 2007.
