Todd Dutiaume played for the Fife Flyers and then coached them for twenty-five years, alongside that of Mark Morrison, who was named Player and Coach of the Year in 1996–97.
The Flyers took the ice for the first time on 1 October 1938, against the Dundee Tigers, with Norman McQuade scoring the club's first goal and Les Lovell Snr wearing the captain's armband. That fixture has never really stopped: Dundee's successors, the Dundee Stars, remain the opponent Fife supporters mark on the calendar before any other, in what is still called the Tayside Derby.
Titles followed across decades and across leagues that no longer exist under those names — Scottish League championships from the 1940s through to 2007, Northern League and Scottish Cup wins stacked up through the 1990s and 2000s, a run that also brought the British Championship and BHL Playoffs in the mid-1980s. The club joined the Elite Ice Hockey League in 2011, stepping into the place vacated by the Newcastle Vipers, and reached a Challenge Cup final as recently as 2022–23, losing out to the Belfast Giants.
The 2024–25 season gave the Flyers little to work with, a last-place finish with five wins from the campaign, and Tom Coolen's spell as head coach ended that December. Tim Wallace has since been named head coach and general manager for 2026–27, taking on a team still playing in front of Kirkcaldy crowds at the Fife Ice Arena and looking to turn last season's results around.
