Gwardia Koszalin spend this season shuttling around the second tier of Polish handball, still chasing the top flight they last knew in the early 1990s. The 2024 win at the Turniej Mistrzów in Płock earned them a place back in the Liga Centralna, a step up after years of drifting between the I and II Liga, and the club now has to prove that promotion was more than one good week in Płock.

The section traces back to 1966, when it formed around players from the local club Znicz Koszalin under the wider umbrella of KS Gwardia, itself dating to 1946. It broke away as an independent club, KSPR Gwardia Koszalin, in 1994. Since January 2026 it has carried the name of its sponsor Energa, part of the ORLEN group.

A cup run stands out more than any league finish: in 2009/10 Gwardia reached the final of the Puchar Polski, drew 1:1 with Hutnik Szczecin, and lost on penalties.

None of that carries the weight of games against Bałtyk Koszalin.
