Mazovia has its own handball rivalry, and for AZS UW it runs through KPR Legionowo — meetings between the two carry the name Derby Mazowsza. The team's other derby, against Legia Warszawa, belongs properly to futsal rather than the handball section.
The handball section split off from the wider AZS Uniwersytet Warszawski sports club, itself founded in July 1916; the handball players followed in 1918. Two titles at the Polish University Championships, in 1984 and 1990, sit at the top of the club's honours, with runner-up finishes either side of them in 1982 and 1988. Silverware in the open leagues has come lower down the ladder — a III Liga title in 1997, a run to the Polish Cup quarter-finals in 2003, and, more recently, the Masovian regional stage of the Polish Cup in 2019. Relegation out of the I Liga after the 2013/2014 season left the club fighting back up from the II Liga.
Home games are played in a hall on ul. Banacha known to everyone as the Balon Arena.
