Kongsvinger

Kongsvinger Ishall opened on 23 November 2013, seating 2,000, and replaced the old Kongshallen, a 550-capacity rink that had served the club since 1992.

That habit of starting over goes back to the founding. A group of local sports enthusiasts, among them Rolf E. Johnsen and Ola Bie-Larsen, set the hockey section up on 27 January 1961, running it independently before a 19-to-1 vote folded it into the parent club Kongsvinger Idrettslag later that year. For decades it played as KIL Hockey or Kongsvinger Ishockeyklubb. In 2004 it rebranded as Kongsvinger Knights, chasing a more professional image. Four seasons in the top flight ended in bankruptcy in December 2018. The club came back the following season in 2. divisjon, this time again as Kongsvinger IL Ishockey, and Lars Erik Hesbråten took on the player-coach role. Promotion back to 1. divisjon followed in 2024, after a second-place finish in the promotion qualifiers.

Niklas Egnersson sits atop the scoring lists with 288 points for the club, a mark from an era before the bankruptcy reset everything.

A Norwegian Championship has never come to Kongsvinger, and neither has a GET-ligaen title.
