Legionowo

In 2024, KPR Legionowo dropped out of the Polish Superliga and, rather than accept a return to the second tier, merged with Unia Tarnów to keep a place in the top flight. It was not the first time the club's survival had depended on paperwork as much as results: in December 2018, the original company running the team, KPR Legionowo S.A., was wound up after the club was refused a Superliga licence and sent down anyway, and a new entity, KPR Legionowo sp. z o.o., took over under president Artur Niesłuchowski.

The club grew out of Legionowo's handball scene in 2009 and has changed its name almost as often as its sponsors have changed: it played as Borodino, then as RC, before Zepter's backing brought the current Zepter KPR Legionowo. Between those shifts it built a habit of bouncing straight back up whenever it went down, winning the I Liga in 2012/13, 2014/15 and 2020/21, and the Liga Centralna in 2023.

Its highest finish in the top division, sixth place in 2015/16, came under Robert Lis, a former Polish international with 128 caps who later moved into the national team's coaching staff. Matches against ORLEN Wisła Płock, played as the Mazovia Derby, remain the fixture Legionowo's supporters mark on the calendar before any other.

Back in the Superliga through the tie-up with Unia Tarnów, the club's task now is simply to hold the place it fought to keep.
