Zaglebie

Lubin is a copper town in Lower Silesia, built up around the mines of KGHM Polska Miedź, and it is the mining company's colours that Zagłębie Lubin's handball players carry onto the court: copper, white and green. The men's section grew out of the Mining School in Lubin in 1967, when the team still played under the name Górnik Lubin and Szymon Kanigowski took charge as its first coach. It kept that identity until the club adopted the Zagłębie name and reached the Superliga for the first time in the 1990/1991 season.

The best of that men's team came in the middle of the following decade. The title arrived in 2006/07, with Bartłomiej Jaszka scoring the equaliser that took the final to its decisive moment and Tomasz Kozłowski, an academy graduate, established as one of the side's key figures that season. A Polish Cup had already been won in 1992/93. In Europe, the club reached the EHF Challenge Cup semi-finals in 2006/07 and, the following season, beating SG Flensburg-Handewitt 33-32 away in the EHF Champions League group stage.

It is the women's section, founded in 1982, that now defines the club.
