Porriño Women

Micaela Casasola finished as the leading scorer of the 2024–25 EHF European Cup. The women of O Porriño had never played in Europe before that campaign; they lost the final to Valur, years before the current club was properly constituted in 1987.

Domestic silverware has been harder to come by. Porriño has never lifted the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola or the Copa de la Reina, and its best league finishes — fourth place, in 2023–24 and again in 2024–25 — came in the same stretch that produced the European run.

Abel Estévez, now club president, once coached the side to its first continental qualification, a Recopa EHF berth in the 2010s, and has watched the project he started reach a European final under his successors. Captain Sarai Samartín and academy graduate Iria Benaches were both part of that squad, a reminder that the "As Vermellas" nickname, worn in the club's red and black, has stayed attached to home-grown players as much as to those brought in for the European push. Local rivalry still centres on the Sangriña derby against Atlético Guardés rather than anything continental.
