Sean McVay was 30 when the Rams handed him the job in 2017, the youngest head coach in the modern NFL, and within two seasons he had the offense back in a Super Bowl. That run ended in a loss to New England, but three years later, with Matthew Stafford now at quarterback, McVay took the same franchise to Super Bowl LVI and beat the Cincinnati Bengals on its own field — the first team since the 1979 Steelers to win a Super Bowl at home. It was the second Lombardi Trophy in club history, after the 1999 side built around Kurt Warner and known as "The Greatest Show on Turf" beat the Tennessee Titans.
Getting back to Los Angeles took the franchise eighty years and two round trips. It started out in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams, moved west in 1946 as the first major professional sports team on the West Coast, left for St. Louis in 1995 under owner Georgia Frontiere, and came home in 2016 once Stan Kroenke took charge. In between, the Rams of the 1950s under Bob Waterfield and the "Fearsome Foursome" defense of the 1960s and '70s, led by Merlin Olsen and Deacon Jones, gave the club three NFL championships before the Super Bowl era existed.
Aaron Donald retired in 2024 having spent his entire ten-year career with the club, regarded by opponents as the most disruptive interior lineman of his generation. The current roster is built around Stafford and the receiving pair of Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, with the 49ers–Rams rivalry still the one that decides the NFC West most autumns.
Since 2020 the Rams have shared SoFi Stadium in Inglewood with the Chargers, a ground that seats 70,240 for football and expands well past 100,000 for events that need it. The fanbase that follows them there calls itself the Mob Squad.
